Banj is a small settlement of olive oil producers, growers and fishermen, built around the church of St. Cosmos in the year 1356. From a nearby hill you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Pasman Channel and the National Park Kornati. Church of Our Lady of Loreto is located on a 180m high hill Bokolj, where every year on the 10th of May the faithful make pilgrimages to Our Lady. The first mention of Banj dates back to the year 1265 as Bagni. This was also the name of the island "Insula Bagni" and under this name the island is known in the 1290th and year 1333. Roman coins that were found are proof that Banj was inhabited in ancient times and that Romans had their baths in the settlement. Today the inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture, fishing and tourism, and accommodation is available in private rooms and apartments. Banj is also known for its fresh spring water and fruits and vegetables "pomidori i trišnje" (tomatoes and cherries). Their cherries were among the most famous fruit in the markets. In the village there is a public beach of a concrete exterior, while the interior is shallow and sandy, ideal for families with small children. Clean sea, long walks, pine wood by the beach, peace and silence in the settlement, interesting diving sites, interesting wind surfing sites, long cycling routes and walking tracks, possibility for departures on interesting trips are just some of the reasons to choose this place for your vacation.
